We were on the road again, to La Reserva Biosfera El Cielo, a park known for its impressive diversity of flora and fauna. With a wide range of bird species, and cloud forest. The town of Gómez Farías basically survived on taking tourists up into the reserve, via the 4WD tracks around the park. Instead of taking the tour, we decided to give it a try in the van. After 2km, we decided it was a bit past us. It was a little too steep, and a little too rocky. A good way to test out our new front end though. Pancho had been beaten, so we turned around to go home. On the way, we passed signs to a lookout and walking trail. Turns out that the road to the walking trail was almost as bad as the 4WD tracks. It got a little hairy at times, but Pancho made it in and out, and we got a nice walk in the jungle, past beautiful blue butterflies and cactus farms. We also got a leg full of the itchiest bites I have ever received. I don’t think they were mosquitos, they were far too vicious. Evan was obviously the tastiest, he had hundreds of bites up to his knees. Angus and I got a good dose on our feet and ankles, and Andrew miraculously got none. After a very uncomfortable nights sleep, we were ready to leave La Reserva Biosfera. |
