Slightly further South East, we found Parque Nacional Rincón de la Vieja, home to one of the most interesting walking tracks I have had the pleasure to amble upon. Two well-maintained paths lead you around a series of geo thermal phenomenon including fumaroles, hot springs, bubbling sulphur mud pots and a volcancito (baby volcano). The path also takes you through a diverse range of environments from sweaty jungle, to hot grassy planes and green fields, all the way to the base of a beautiful blue river and swimming hole. The diverse range of Costa Rican tourists was displayed, when older American ladies with walking poles and legionnaires hats looked on in horror when European tourists stripped off to swim naked in a blue jungle pool at the end of a walking track. The following afternoon was spent bobbing about in thermal heated pools. Each pool was tucked away under the jungle canopy, and alongside a roaring river which created a magical soundtrack. |
